Competitive Teams

All dancers must successfully audition for the GK Dance Competition Team.Students will be placed onto the senior team at the discretion of the instructor.  Past years' performances, dedication, attendance, and motivation may play roles in determining teams. Work ethic, maturity and respect are heavily valued on the GK Dance Competition teams. Membership is based solely upon Kristen's discretion. 

Competition teams will be created according to age, ability, and class size.

 

Competition Team Members competing at the recreational level will meet between 2-4 hours per week on Tuesdays/Thursdays. 

**New this year: Competition Team Members competing at the competitive level will meet between 4-6 hours per week on Tuesdays/Thursdays/Sundays. Ballet Barre Class/Conditioning and Stretch Class or Tumbling class MUST be attended weekly in addition to competition dance class.

Recreational Audition Requirements:

Recreational Team Junior/Teen/Senior (Ages 9-18 as of January 1st 2023):


  • Flat Split

  • Knowledge of 5 ballet positions, basic turns, leaps, terminology

  • Traveling Pirouettes

  • Single Pirouette

  • Jete' (Split leap)

  • Running Flaps

  • Triple Time Step

  • Choreography combination taught at auditions

  • PERFECT stage presence (judged by past performances)

  • NO HISTORY OF BEHAVIORAL INCIDENTS AT GK DANCE COMPANY OR DURING DANCE EVENTS*


     

    Competitive Team Requirements for Junior/Teen/Senior (Ages 9-18 as of January 1st, 2023)


      ● All skills listed above for the recreational team

      ● Front Split and Straddle Split

      ● Russian Leap 

      ● Double/Triple Pirouette (Executed with proper technique)

      ● Fouette Spins (Executed with proper technique)

      ● A La Seconde Spins (Executed with proper technique)

      ● Side Aerial

      ● Wings (one foot and two feet)

      ● Shiggy Bops

      ● Choreography Combination taught at Auditions

      ● Dancer may be forced to compete her solo/duo/trio at the competitive level 


     

    Recreational Team Requirements for Mini/Petite Team (Ages 5-11 as of January 1st, 2023)


      ● Flat Split 

      ● Knowledge of 5 ballet positions, basic turns, leaps, terminology

      ● Running Flaps

      ● Traveling Pirouettes

      ● Single Time Step

      ● Shuffles

      ● PERFECT stage presence (judged by past performances)

      ● NO HISTORY OF BEHAVIORAL INCIDENTS AT GK DANCE COMPANY OR DURING DANCE EVENTS*

    *Kristen has the right to deny entry to the team or discontinue team membership at any time during the course of the season based on dancer and/or parent behaviors and actions.

    *Dancers and parents will sign a contract at auditions highlighting expectations and requirements for team membership. Physical altercations at any time will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal from GK Dance Company. Any dancer who acts in an unkind or unprofessional way at any time will be removed from the team. 

    *Team membership will be immediately terminated due to unpaid payment balances. 

     

    Solos/Duos/Trios for Competition

    *Solos/Duos/Trios will only be choreographed for members of a competition team.

     Fees for solo/duo/trio--

    $125 per dance--includes 100% choreography, music editing and copy of music.  

    PLUS $10/dancer per 30 minute practice time in the studio with instructor after choreography is finished

    (Fees may be split between dancers in duets and trios.)
